Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya is a brand new adults-only, all-inclusive resort in Mexico! This resort opened on June 1st, 2023 and is the first adults only resort in the Margaritaville collection!

Getting to the Resort

We flew into the Cancun airport and it’s very easy to get to this resort from there. When booking my travels to this area of Mexico, I always book a roundtrip airport shuttle ahead of time. For me, this makes it so much easier and stress free. I don’t have to worry about finding a bus or taxi. I can just find the shuttle company I booked with and be on my way. It also takes out the hassle of getting a ride back to the airport at the end of my trip. They just tell us when to be ready and pick us up the day we depart.

For this trip, I booked through Expedia and was set up with a shuttle from the company “Book Taxi”. They made sure to send me all the instructions I needed in order to find them + was even holding up a sign with my name on it (pretty cool!).

Check-In

The check-in process went very quick for us. We were even brought margarita popsicles to snack on!

When we arrived our room was not ready yet, so we decided to grab some lunch from Landshark Brewery and were told they would come get us once our room was available (and they did!)

Accommodations

This resort has 355 suites, with 13 different room types to choose from! During our stay we were in a Queen Paradise Room, which you can see a tour of below!

Each room has beautiful coastal inspired decor and opens to a furnished private balcony or terrace. These overlook either the ocean or the resort’s pool/gardens.

Pools/Beach Area

During our stay the beach area was not the best to be honest with you. As you can see from the photo below, there is not much space. Also, there was a lot of stinky seaweed which we could smell from the pool (not their fault of course!). If a large beach is something important to you, this may not be the resort for you. We still really enjoyed our stay, but the beach was a bit disappointing.

Please keep in mind, I was there opening week, so it’s possible they are still working to improve this area. I can only comment on how it was during my stay though!

On the other hand, the pools at this resort really made up for the lack of beach. There are 3 pools, 2 which have swim up bars. The largest pool (shown below) offers entertainment throughout the day which was really fun to watch & participate in. They do a little bit of everything; aerobics, live music, volleyball, foam party, etc.
