Getting to the Resort
Getting to the resort from the Cancun airport is extremely easy! For this particular trip we booked through Delta Vacations and a free shuttle was provided for us. Be sure to always check with whoever you booked with ahead of time to see if this is provided!
You can also book a roundtrip shuttle ahead of time (You can get a private one or a shared one). This will take you from the airport to your resort and then at the end of your trip, from your resort to the airport. I usually book through Expedia and the cost is around $20-30 USD per person for a roundtrip shared shuttle.Â

Check In
Check-in time for this resort begins at 3pm. If you arrive earlier than that, that is ok! You can still get your resort wristband and enjoy the amenities until your room is ready.
We arrived a little earlier than 3pm and our room was not ready yet so they asked us to return around 2:50-3pm. We took this time to get some lunch at the buffet. At 3pm our room was still not ready, we didn’t get our room until almost 4pm. So that was a bit disappointing having to wait an hour past check in time. Not a HUGE deal, but I like to be honest in my reviews and tell my experience, good and bad.
Accommodations
We stayed in a Villa Junior Suite Jacuzzi Ocean View room, which you can see a tour of in the video below. I’ll be honest, I was a little disappointed after arriving at our room. We paid extra to stay in the villas and to have the outside jacuzzi and ocean view. We were on the first floor though right outside the pool. I would consider this more of a “pool-side” or “pool view” room, not a true ocean view room. There wasn’t much of an ocean view at all. Â Being right at the pool as well made it a bit more difficult to enjoy the jacuzzi with everyone walking by and looking at you LOL. I would have rather paid less money and been on a higher floor in the main building to have an actual view of the ocean & more privacy while on the balcony. On the plus side though, the location of our room was perfect for enjoying the adults only pool, bar + getting to the beach quickly. We still enjoyed it, it just wasn’t what we thought we were getting when booking our stay.Â
The villas is the adult-only section at the resort. By staying in the villas you also have access to an additional pool + restaurant that only those staying in the villas can use.

Beach Area
Although there are a lot of rocky areas on this beach, there are still some good “sandy beach” areas as well.Â
I really liked that the water wasn’t super rough like at some resorts, so it was great for being able to swim in.
Located next door to RIU Palace Peninsula is another RIU Resort (RIU Caribe). There is a stand on the beach here where you can rent jet skis if this is something you are interested in.Â
Location
This resort is located just a quick walk away from the ferry terminal, Playa Tortuga. This is where you can catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres. (Check out my video below for more info on Isla Mujeres & taking the ferry to it!)
If you are looking to visit all the bars and nightlife in the hotel zone (for Example Congo or Coco Bongo), this resort is a bit farther away. I would recommend either taking the bus or a taxi as it’s a bit far to walk. Yes, you can walk it, but it took us about 45 min I would say + with the heat and humidity we were more than happy to take the bus back (haha!)
