*Can you introduce yourself?
I’m Tyler Shamy and I am a 16 year old singer, song writer, actor, and dancer!
*What was it like for you moving from NJ to LA?
It was a substantial change for me. I’ve lived in New Jersey all of my life up until August of 2007. Not only was I leaving my home, but I was also leaving my friends, family, school, and everything I grew up with. Thankfully we are bi-coastal so I still get to visit NJ a few times a year. At first it wasn’t an easy adjustment…I was starting homeschooling for the first time so it was somewhat of a challenge to meet people. Acting classes helped, along with just starting up conversations with random people around the apartment complex. I realized that you have to be extremely outgoing here because otherwise you’ll be a loner! About a month and a half into our stay, we moved to a different apartment complex because we weren’t happy with it. I’ve learned a lot from the move from NJ to LA. I think it’s changed me for the better because I’ve grown so much as a person.
*You’ve always wanted to pursue a career as a performer, what was it like for you when your dreams were finally becoming a reality?
It still feels surreal that I’m finally finding success. I’ve been pursuing this for a very long time…I got my first agent in third grade. Even though my dreams are becoming a reality, I have to continue working hard because this is only the beginning! Every day I feel even more fulfilled because I’m doing what I love to do and getting closer and closer to making a long lasting career out of it.
*You’ve had yourself a mix of jobs, between singing and acting, which do you prefer?
That’s a tough question to answer! Honestly, I adore both singing and acting equally. I like variety in my life. It never gets old that way. I get a sense of satisfaction whether I’m creating a song, performing, or even rehearsing. Acting and singing are my passions. It’d be impossible to choose one over the other.
*You’re about to be a Radio Disney incubator Artist starting on May 31st, how excited are you for this? That is a huge accomplishment.
Thank you! Yes, I’m extremely excited for this! The Incubator program is a great opportunity for up and coming artists and I’m so thankful to be one of their Featured Artists! Request me please haha
*Do you have any projects coming up in the future?
I just completed my EP called “Goin’ to LA” of 6 songs. Right now, I’m just booking gigs as much as I can and getting myself out there now that I have the material. I’ve been rehearsing with my back up dancers a lot to make our shows as entertaining as possible! I’m also in a play called “The House of Yes” right now. It runs throughout the month of May in Hollywood. I recently sang on a demo for Grammy award-winning songwriter Amy Powers. The song is being submitted to a Warner Brothers Film, so hopefully that will get placed in the film if they like it! That’s about it right now…just hoping to continue making music and working as an actor ϑ
*What are your goals for 2008?
My biggest goal is to get signed by a major label because I think that would take both my music and acting career to a whole new level. I’m doing as much as I can as an independent artist, but it’d be awesome to have the support of an established company. I aspire to make a full length album, go on tour, and do some film and television work throughout 2008 as well!
*We’re anxiously awaiting news on a CD, do you have plans to release anything?
Yes! As I briefly mentioned earlier, my EP “Goin’ to LA” is available on my myspace. It can be downloaded through the Snocap Music Store or the physical CD can be ordered and shipped through Paypal. We plan to get the CD up on Itunes, Amazon, and a bunch of other music sites soon.
*You are on the roster for the School Zone Pop tour, do you have any plans for a national tour?
A national tour is not really possible until I have the necessary financial backing…because it costs quite a bit to tour the country! I may be traveling to a couple different states this summer to perform because I’ve had some requests to be the entertainment for a few graduation parties and weddings. So the people holding the events are flying me out and providing lodging and all of that good stuff! But aside from those few exceptions, I’m playing mainly in the Southern Cali area.
*Message for your fans
Thank you all so much for your on-going support and loyalty. Without you, I wouldn’t be where I am today. You keep me going! I love you all
