Getting to the Resort:
Getting to the resort from the Cancun airport is extremely easy. I always book a roundtrip shuttle ahead of time (You can get a private one or a shared one). This will take you from the airport to your resort and then at the end of your trip, from your resort to the airport. I usually book through Expedia and the cost is around $15-$20 USD for a shared shuttle. Taxi’s are also available, but will cost you more.
Check out the video below for a tour of the resort!
Check In:
Upon arrival to the resort, before entering, your luggage is wiped down and sanitized. You then enter the front entrance where your temperature is taken before heading to the check in counter.
The check in process went very quick and smooth. With the new COVID precautions in place, there were barriers up between the employees and us. Also, to get our room keys they had it set up to where we would create the keys ourselves via a machine set up on the counter to minimize interactions. The process was very quick and we were on our way to our room within minutes of arriving.
Accommodations:
For our stay at Riu Palace Las Americas we were in room 638 which was a “Junior Suite Ocean View”. This room had 2 double beds which were pushed together almost making 1 huge bed. Other features include a sitting area with TV & an outdoor balcony overlooking one of the pools + beautiful ocean view. I have received many questions on whether the alcohol dispensers in the room were in use; during our stay in August 2020, no they were not.
See below for photos + a video room tour.
Dining/Bars
Below is a list of all the restaurants and bars available on the property. During our stay, all of the restaurants/bars were not open each day. Please note that we did stay shortly after tourism re-opened in Cancun (COVID Pandemic) in August 2020 so capacity was not as full as usual. Open times/days may differ during your stay.
The resort had a phone app available to download which was extremely handy. You could go on their each day and see which restaurants and bars would be open and what their hours would be for the day. The app also provided menu’s for each of the restaurants, which is how you ordered while there. No physical menus were given out.
Don Roberto: This is the main restaurant, serving buffet style food. We ate many meals here; breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very good!
Krystal: Fusion Gourmet Restaurant. Open for Dinner. We did not have a chance to dine here during our stay.
Los Arcos: Italian Restaurant. Open for dinner. We did not have a chance to dine here during our stay.
Sakura: Japanese Restaurant. Open for dinner.
We ate here on our first night and the food was very good. They did not have the hibachi grills like some resorts, so that was a bit disappointing. Still enjoyed our meal though.
Fiesta Mexicana: Mexican Restaurant. Open for dinner.
Black & White: Steakhouse. Open for dinner.
Art Deco: Lobby bar
Capuchino: Coffee place
Lounge 24: Offers snacks 24/7
La Terraza: Bar. This is also where you will find the nighttime entertainment.
Can:

Cun:

COVID Safety Precautions:
During our stay many new policies were in place due to COVID. As mentioned above, your temperature was taken upon entry to the resort. Some of the other changes we noticed are:
Barriers between employees and guests at check in and at the pool bar
alcohol dispensers in room not used
Limited # of people in the elevator at a time
Masks required in indoor areas
restaurants/bars limited on days/times open. Some not open at all (swim up bar for example)
temperature check and sanitizer given upon entry to dining areas
Additional Features
Renova Spa
Location
If you are interested in checking out the nightlife, this resort is in the perfect location. You can walk to the popular nightclubs (coco bongo, Congo, etc). There are also many shops and restaurants in walking distance as well. If you would like to go a bit further down the hotel zone strip, there are bus stops for the local bus all over. I highly recommend taking the bus over getting a taxi if you feel comfortable to do so. So much cheaper!
This looks like a beautiful hotel in Cancun. We went last year and we were hoping to go this year but haven’t booked anything yet. Maybe we will have to check out this hotel.
This looks like a beautiful place to stay. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Looks like you had a great time. I haven’t been to Cancun, but I do love Mexico.
There are so many places to eat! I would have a hard time deciding where to go each day!
