Can you guys introduce yourselves?
Scott Taube sings lead and plays guitar. Josiah Prince (me) plays lead guitar & keys and sings backup vox. Justin Sams plays bass and sings backup vox. Todd Davis plays drums.
When did Philmont get their start?
Scott and I were in different local bands in Charlotte NC; both of those bands broke up in 2005. We had known each other from playing shows together, and decided to form a new band together. We picked up Justin and Todd along the way, and the rest is history!
Who are your inspirations?
We all have very different influences individually. Philmont as a whole is most inspired by bands like Anberlin, Jimmy Eat World, Emery, etc…but our individual favorites range from Radiohead to Blink-182 to The Beatles to The Mars Volta.
You just finished the Forefront Records tour with Abandon and This Beautiful Republic-how did the tour go?
It was so much fun; all the shows were amazing, and we love the other bands on our label. We got to hang with our manager and A&R reps the whole time, so it was more like a big party than a tour.
Do you have any stories you’d like to share from the short tour?
Well we quickly figured out that literally everybody who was on the tour was hopelessly addicted to the show LOST. Since none of us could watch the new episode when it aired, we bought it on iTunes and set it up to watch on the final night of tour. So we had about 15 guys crammed into a small dressing room at the venue (only 1 couch), with the computer hooked up to the TV, and every last one of us freaking out over Lost. It was amazing.
You will also be participating in the Wavorly tour-are you looking forward to it?
We definitely are excited about that tour. We have played some festivals with Wavorly over the years, and they are great dudes. Joining us will be A Rotterdam November, who we just got off the road with last month; as well as Ilia, who we are looking forward to meeting for the first time. It should be really fun.
You released the EP Oh Snap over the summer, do you guys plan to release an LP soon?
We digitally released Oh Snap in August 2008, and that EP will be going to retail stores on April 21st. We will then have our full-length debut, “Attention”, coming out in stores and online in September. We are very excited to get the full album out for people to hear.
Do you guys plan to have a full tour this summer or will you be participating in the big summer christian festivals?
We will definitely be at a lot of the big festivals; we are working on filling out the rest of the summer right now, so we will see how it turns out.
Tell us something about each of you that everyone may not know.
Hmm, that is tough. Scott is addicted to Diet Coke. Todd always (ALWAYS) has a toothpick in his mouth. Justin loves lemonade and trucker hats. And as for me…well, I have been a huge Marvel Comics fan since I was a kid. Still am.
What has been the most memorable part of your career?
I’m not even sure if I could call it a career at this point. We are still in the very early stages of professional musicianship (?). Signing our record deal was a huge moment for us, obviously. Other than that, we played an amazing show at Youth Encounter in Springfield, IL at the end of 2008. The response from the kids there blew all of our minds, we made a lot of awesome friends, and it is certainly a time we will never forget.
What is your favorite thing about performing infront of a crowd?
Whenever the audience is as interactive as we are, it is a good night. We like to show a lot of energy on stage, so it is satisfying to see a reaction to that. Another great thing is seeing kids singing our lyrics; it gives us goosebumps.
What is something you hope to accomplish in your career?
We just want to play music for as long as we can, and reach as many kids as we can in the time we have. This is a ministry for us, so as long as we are doing it for the right reasons, we will have a blast doing it, and hope that our fans have fun as well.
Do you guys have a message for your fans and readers?
Please come see us when we are on tour! We love hanging out with people after shows, meeting new friends, having great conversations, etc…it is one of the most gratifying things about being on the road. So don’t be shy! And while you’re at it, go pick up our Oh Snap EP on iTunes!
