Nick Braun Interview | Put Me in the Picture | Sept. 2008

Can you introduce yourself?

Hey, everybody. I’m Nicholas Braun. I played Zach in Disney’s “Sky High,” Zeke in “Minutemen,” and will play Ed in next summer’s Disney Channel movie “Princess Protection Program.”

When did you move to LA to pursue your career?

I’ve been acting since I was five or six, but I moved to LA in June 2006. I’m originally from Connecticut.  So I have only been here a couple years- it feels much longer.  Things have been going great, and I’ve been busy since the moment I got out here.

Tell us about Filming Princess Protection Program with Demi and Selena?

We had too much fun shooting “Princess Protection Program.”  It didn’t feel like work.  We shot on location in Puerto Rico for almost a month, lived in an awesome hotel right on the beach, had a sick cast.  Demi and Selena, by the way, are pros.  They were both 15 when we shot it this spring, but they are like seasoned vets.  They’re both so talented.  I actually saw some footage recently, of the film, and it looks amazing.  And it’s very funny, too.

what was it like being in the movie Minutemen and working w/jason dolley and Chelsea staub?

“Minutemen” was another awesome experience.  Jason and Chels are great in the movie, and are also really cool to work with.  Chelsea and Jason take their work very seriously, but make it look so natural.  Nothing but good things to say about everyone I worked with on “Minutemen.”  And I loved that role of “Zeke.”  I rarely get the chance to play the badass, biker guy, who wears leather and uses a sod-iron.  So that was tight.

Cold case and without a trace…what was it like being on 2 popular shows?

Yeah, I shot “Without a Trace” in ’06 and just wrapped “Cold Case,” in July…Honestly, I love episodic television because it is just a machine.  As a guest star, you go in for a couple days, work with KILLER scripts, and then you’re out.  You get to meet so many actors, play very unique characters(on CC I play a Marine in 1951), and it’s quick.

Your first major film was Sky High, what was it like doing that for the first time?

“Sky High” was huge for my career.  I mean, I had done some TV and film before it, but “Sky High” took me to a different tier entirely.  I got an awesome manager from it, who was then able to get me out for some great projects(that I couldn’t have auditioned for before).  Aside from it driving my career forward, it was a great role and film to work on.  I got to work opposite Kurt Russell! And Farva from “Super Troopers”!

any other upcoming projects?

I’ve been working on a webseries called “Poor Paul,” which premieres on YouTube, myspace, facebook, vimeo, etc. on September 16.  It’s funny shit, and a lot of my stuff is improv.  So check that out.  I might be doing a film this fall called “Floating Bridge,” but for some reason they are not sure if it’s gonna happen or not.  Which sucks.  It’s a tight script.  I got my “Cold Case” episode premiering October 26.  And “Princess Protection Program” is out in June.

Who are your Inspirations?

Paul Newman, James Dean, Marlon Brando, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Daniel Day Lewis, Leonardo Dicaprio.  Damn, I want my name to be in a list like that someday.

favorite thing you’ve done so far in your career?

Sky High.

what would you like to accomplish in your career?

Shooooot.  I have so much I want to accomplish.  I mean, I’m in this for the long run.  More than anything else, I just want to work on well-written, compelling stuff.  I want to act my whole life, but I also want to produce, write, direct, cast- I find all aspects of this industry fascinating.  But my true passion is acting.

Who would you like to work with?

Those guys a couple lines above this.  Any and all of them.  Well, a few of them are out of the game, but out of the living ones, Phillip Hoffman would be my number one.  Dude is brilliant. Oh, and I wanna work with Gary Busey, cause he’s crazy.  I would laugh my ass off.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Sleep, golf, play tennis, play XBox, eat.

something people don’t know about you

I have size 15 shoes.  And, I freestyle rap. I’m ill.

How excited are you for the release of Princess Protection Program?

I’m so excited.  I kinda wish they changed the title, because it makes it sound like a girly movie.  But it’s not.  It’s a great story, the locations are beautiful, and the cast is incredible.  It will be one of Disney Channel’s best original movies they have ever made. No doubt.  I know it’s a little confident, but whatever, because I’m real proud of the movie we made.

You recently attended one of the 3 biggest Demi and Jonas shows, what did you think?

I was at the Burning Up Tour show at Madison Square Garden.  Yeah, it was mayhem.  Jonas Brothers fans are insane!  Pretty funny stuff.  Demi straight killed it.  She is an amazing performer.  She has become one of my good friends, since PPP, and I’m real proud of the girl.  She rocks.  And the Brothers Jonas did a great job as well.  All the fire, and foam, and lasers were cool.  The show was definitely more than I expected.

Do you have a message to your fans and the readers?

Thanks for watching, guys.  I wouldn’t be where I am today without my fans.  Keep on checking out my stuff, and let me know what you think! I love hearing from all of you, so definitely hit me up on facebook or on my website: www.nicholasbraun.com.  Later!
