Lux Interview | Put Me in the Picture | Jan. 2011

-Introduce Yourselves:

Jesse: Hey guys I’m Jesse Johnson. I do lead vocals, guitar and piano.

Cameron: Hey I’m Cameron Rochte. I play bass and sing backup vocals.

Jarred: Hi my name is Jarred Lawson. I play guitar in the band. I love music and have been playing since I was young.

Alex: Hello, my name is Alex Johnson. I play the drums and also sing backup vocals.

-How did you guys get together as a band?

Jesse: My younger brother Alex and I have played music since we were kids. We joined the youth band for our church and that is where we found Cameron, our bass player. We have been playing together ever since then.

-Who are some of your influences?

Jesse: We have a lot of major influences.  U2, Kings of Leon, Coldplay, and The Killers are just a few of our favorites. We really like any artist or song that can draw out strong emotion or feeling with their music.

-In June 2010, you guys released your debut EP “Art Of Independence”. Can you tell us a bit about the EP & what it was like recording it?

Jesse: The EP is really just a collection of the first five songs that we have ever written and recorded. We had a lot of fun recoding it and we were surprised at how many people really liked it.

-Fav. song on the EP?

Jesse: Our favorite song, thats a hard one. I really like I Am One. It was our first song and it was the first time that we, as a band, embodied everything we had been trying to write for the past few years.

-Fav. song to perform live?

Jesse: My favorite song to play live is probably You Said Yes. Lately, Cameron has been writing some really cool intros for it that really get the crowd going.

-Of all the shows you have played to date, which has been the most memorable for you and why?

Cameron: My favorite show so far was when we played at Skully’s in Columbus last year. It’s just a little bar with a stage, but it was the most energetic we have ever seen the crowd at any of our shows. I find it much more fun when you can see that everyone in the crowd is enjoying themselves. It really pumps us up, and we often play better as a band.

-What is the most embarrassing thing thats happened to you while performing?

Cameron: I can’t say that I have had many yet, but I can think of many times where I have nearly tripped and fell while onstage.

-Who is someone you would like to work with or play a show with in the future?

ALEX: I personally would love to work with Kings of Leon, Angels & Airwaves, or Coldplay. All of those bands are ones in which we pull inspiration and influence from, and so to be on stage with them, or even talk to them would be a great time!

-Fav. movie of all time:

Cameron: Napoleon Dynamite

-What is something people may be surprised to find out about you?

Jarred: My mom used to be an Elvis impersonator

-What is 1 thing you’d like to see/do in your lifetime?

Cameron: I would love to travel to Europe or Australia. The music scene seems very cool there.

-Fav. artist/group of all time & your fav. song by them?

Jarred: U2. Bleh how could I choose one song?!  I guess ill go with “One”

-What was your fav. cartoon or tv show while growing up?

Cameron: We didn’t have cable growing up, so I usually watched Arthur on PBS afterschool everyday after school.
