Die Pretty Interview | Put Me in the Picture | June 2011

-Introduce Yourselves:

Hello, we are Die Pretty from Brooklyn NY

-How did you guys get together?

Skip and Sarah (brother and sister) formed Die Pretty in 2009 when they met Tommy Cai and Angelo at a coffee shop in Manhattan. They started playing music together and Die Pretty was born.

-Who are some of your influences?

Any rock from the past three decades has had a lot of influence on us, but specifically we grew up listening to the post 80′s and early grunde/alternative/punk movement in the early 90′s.  Green Day, Social D, No Doubt, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Rancid, Pennywise.

-How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

We would say “Pop Rock” is the category we fit into today. Its rock with a pop sound. Catchy hooks and melodies.

-You new EP “Battle Over Brooklyn”is now available, can you tell us a bit about it & what it was like to record?

Battle over Brooklyn are the latest tunes we recorded this year. Its a pop record EP with each song having a slightly different direction. Some of it is similar to our 2009 release “Bittersweet” but for the most part the band has taken a different direction with a more pop new wave sound on this record. We recorded at Mission Sound in Williamsburg Brooklyn, very close to home. Going to the studio everyday was fun since it was right in our Brooklyn scene.
