Kounterclockwise Interview | Put Me in the Picture | Feb. 2012

1) -Introduce Yourself: 

I am Deacon Burns aka ‘Professor Xavier’ aka ‘Iron Side’ aka ‘Joe Swanson’ aka ‘The Handyman’ aka ‘Broke-Back Mountain – and the beautiful young lady to the right of me is Kaya Rogue.

2) -How did you get your start? 

Well, I got my start in music when I first saw my uncle, Kenneth Johnson – deejay.  He was known as DJ BK and he used to deejay with Johnny O and the Sorcerer Crew.  I must’ve been just 7 years old.  Kaya’s start with music was when she started taking Ballet lessons at The Julliard School 5 years old.

3)-Who are some of your influences? 

We are influenced by so many diverse artists but to give you our top favs right now:  Nine Inch Nails, The Doors, Nirvana, Bjork, KRS One, The Beatles, Cloud Nothings, The Strokes, The Cure, A Tribe Called Quest, Beck, Wu Tang Clan, Aphex Twin, Thelonius Monk, Sun Ra, Sex Pistols, De La Soul, Peter Tosh, Tool, MF Doom, Radiohead, Freestyle Fellowship, Prince, Duran Duran, Slick Rick, Sapient, Eminem, Cage, Squarepusher, Stevie Wonder, Kid Cudi, The Dresden Dolls, Die Antwoord, Led Zeppelin, Nas, Marilyn Manson; writers William Burroughs and Hunter S. Tompson; and artists Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, and Mr. Brainwash.   We love all styles of music so this list by no means is even close to complete.

4)-How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before? 

It’s Native Tongue meets Marilyn Manson.

5)-Do you have any music available for purchase, & if so where can people go to buy it?

7) -What is the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you while performing? 

Being too drunk and forgetting the lyrics.

8) -Who is someone you would like to work with or play a show with in the future? 

We would both love to work with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.

9)-Fav. band/artist of all time: 

The Beatles/Radiohead

10)-What is something people may be surprised to find out about you? 

I still have all my Transformers, GI Joes, WWF action figures, and Muscle Things from when I was a kid.  and I still play with them.

11)-What is 1 thing you would really like to see or do in your lifetime?

See the Browns win the Super Bowl.

12)-First concert you ever attended? 

Kaya saw Depeche Mode and I (Deacon Burns) saw The Fat Boys.

13)-What was your fav. cartoon or tv show while growing up? 

We both grow up loving Tom & Jerry and Bugs Bunny cartoons.

14)-Any last words/message to your fans?
