-Introduce Yourself:
I’m Toni Baldwin and I’m a 15 year old folk-rock singer from Atlanta, GA
-How did you get your start?
I’d always really had a huge influence in music, but I started writing songs in 3rd grade and playing guitar in 6th. After that I pretty much started performing like at school and for friends then it just kinda escalated. I got dared to post a video on Youtube and so I did and I’ve been hooked on the spotlight ever since.
-Who are some of your influences?
I really love A Fine Frenzy, Metric/Emily Hanes, Florence + The Machine, and Ellie Goulding. Florence is my biggest though, I’d LOVE to make music like hers.
-How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
It’s really meaningful music with a slow new wave-ish type sound, but it’s still something you can move to.
-Your debut album is due out later this year, can you tell us a bit about it and how it’s coming along?
I’m currently working on my debut EP album (looking into doing a full length late next year), but it’s coming along great! I’m doing some really cool sounds on and I wrote all 5 of the songs on it so it’s really cool to finally be able to let people hear what’s me. Not a cover or something.
-Do you have a fav. song on the album?
My favorite song on the record right now is a song called “Golden Days”. It’s basically about just letting loose and living your teenage years to their fullest extent.
-What can we expect to see from you the remainder of the year?
2011 is going to really get me out there, I think. I’m working on my EP right now and I’ll be filming a music video to launch it along with the release of my single which I’m looking at a late summer release for. I’m also looking to start doing shows!
-Who is someone you would like to work with or play a show with in the future?
I would love to work with Miley Cyrus. It sounds crazy, I know but she seems so chill and she’s the kind of person I’d love to write with because when she writes, it’s just so honest and that’s what I want to do. Be able to build an empire like she has, but still be just a chill person.
-Fav. band/artist of all time:
Oh gosh, this is always so hard! You can never go wrong with Meg & Dia. Amazing musicians, crazy talented!
-What is something people may be surprised to find out about you? Something people might be surprised to find out about me is that I’m not really that much of a talkative person. I’m actually kind of quiet which is exactly my opposite on stage. Music gives me a different life. It shows a side of me that I don’t normally show and I like that.
-What is 1 thing you’d really like to see or do in your lifetime?
I’d love just spread love and raise awareness about suicide prevention. I knew someone who committed suicide, and it’s really scary to be on the other end of it. I’m an active TWLOHA (To Write Love on Her Arms) and Love Is Louder supporter and I hope my fans will do the same by finding something that’s important to them and raising awareness.
-What was your fav. cartoon or tv show while growing up?
My favorite was always Rugrats/All Grown Up. I wanted to be like Tommy when I was younger. People always thought I was the “leader” but I never really considered myself one until I started music.
