Introduce Yourselves:
Hi, my name is Eben Wares and I sing and play guitar in Move Out West
-How did you guys get together?
A mutual friend put us in touch. I was looking for people to jam with and Cyrus, Brian and LJ were looking for a singer. The funny part is it didn’t really click right away. We all got along but decided to do our own thing for awhile. Cyrus and I however continued to play music and eventually LJ and Brian came back. It has been awesome ever since.
-Who are some of your influences?
I like to make this question confusing. I attempt to gain inspiration from musicians that sound nothing like Move Out West so I can really sit down and write music from my heart. Weather it is different or not… It is Move Out West. Musicians that pointed me in the pop/rock direction growing up Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, Believe in Toledo, Death Cab For Cutie and so many more.
-How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?
I say we are a Rock and if they ask further and seem honestly interested I say pop/rock. Other then that I prefer you listen then me list off bands that people think we mimic.
-Your debut EP “On The Run” is now available, can you tell us a bit about the album & what it was like recording?
I am really proud of “On The Run”. We wrote 10-15 songs and went down to Atlanta, GA with them but we knew the 5 we wanted to record. We attempted to record this album with the feel of a full length. It starts and ends with the same feel and has a couple different climaxes. It rises and falls. We really put a lot of thought into the EP and hope people can tell.
-Fav. song to perform?
My favorite song to perform is whatever the fans at the show react to best. I feed off the audiences energy. I have really been enjoying our song ‘Sink With You’ though lately.
-What is the most embarrassing thing thats happened to you while performing?
I have said a lot of embarrassing things on stage that I wish I could take back. Sometimes we all have a little to much fun. Other then that and technical problems, I can’t recall anything right now. Cyrus has fallen face first in front of 800+ people at The Webster Theater in Hartford, CT in his old band.
-Who is someone you would like to work with or play a show with in the future?
I would love to work with Neil Avaron. He is an incredible producer. I would like to work with Bruno Mars as well. He does some amazing collaborations.
-What is something people may be surprised to find out about you?
I am really not to interesting.
-Best tour prank you’ve pulled -or- had pulled on you?
We toured with this band The Brightlife a year back. They pulled a VERY elaborate prank that involved them convincing us it would be fun if we all jumped on there singer Andy. Now, Andy is a very strong man so it took about 7 skinny white kids to make him move. When I say ‘jump’ I mean take him to the ground. Very physical. They then ‘jumped’ Cyrus and somehow managed to take his keys without us noticing. When we were sound checking they attempted to steal our van and move out around the venue. Luckily, LJ needed to get something out of the van to find it pulling away. He came back in while we were about to start and said “Someone is pulling away with our van”. We stopped them just in time! It was nuts.
-If you could guest star on any tv show, which would you choose?
I would say House or Burn Notice.
-What is something you’d really like to see or do in your lifetime?
Fulfill my dream of being a musician.
-First concert you ever attended?
I went to Radio 104 Fest in Hartford, CT but was 11 and didn’t see anyone cool. After that when I was 12 I saw New Found Glory at The Hartford Civic Center. It was awesome!
-Biggest pet peeve?
Asking stupid and unnecessary question. Sounds weird to say in an interview, but I really hate ‘small talk’. It is mostly me being an impatient asshole.
-What was your fav. cartoon or tv show while growing up?
Dragon Ball Z hands down.
-Celebrity Crush?
It used to be Natalie Portman. I now don’t have one. Soon.
-Any last words/message to your fans?
Pick up our new EP “On The Run” on iTunes and come to a show this summer!
