Fall Kills the Calendar Interview | Put Me in the Picture | Oct. 2010

-Introduce yourselves:

Eric Hickman – Vocals/Piano

Tim Neff – Guitar

Jake Floyd – Bass

Drew Ihle – Drums

How did the band get together & where did the name come from?

Well to make a long story short, Eric was involved in a very serious car accident in the fall of a few years back. The accident literally took his life and he had to be revived. The injuries left him home-ridden for nearly a year. It was then that he started writing music on piano that would eventually bring us here.  After writing a few songs on his own for a while, he wanted to bring the idea of a band to life. Luckily, we had all known each other from previous bands and music endeavors. Coming together for form a full band was actually a very organic process. Things just kind of fell into place when they needed to.

Who are some of your influences:

Oh gosh. Our influences range from so many different artists. Everyone from Copeland to The Starting Line to Circa Survive to August Burns Red to Life In Your Way to Coldplay to The Format.  We all came from very different musical backgrounds to say the least.

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

Fun But Meaningful Piano-based Indie/Pop:)

You have an album “Things We Wish We Knew” out, what is your fav. song from it?

We’ve been asked this a few times. I think we can all agree that “A Song For Us (We Really Are)” has the most meaning to all of us. It talks about the close bond between two people that are apart. We experience this a lot being on the road. Missing our family, friends, and significant others.

Where can your album be purchased?

You can purchase our E.P. “Things We Wish We Knew” on iTunes, Amazon, Napster, our online merch store, or at shows!

-Fav. song to play live:

Much like our favorite song on the CD, “A Song For Us (We Really Are)” is our favorite song to play live. However, it is a lot of fun to get the crowd singing along on “Let There Be Love”.

Most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you while performing?

Hmm.  We had a show in McHenry, IL at a festival with our friends, Miss May I. It was a lot of fun. However halfway through our set, the PA stopped working. This left Eric without a keyboard, or a mic. So we had to continue playing…frontmanless. ha.

-Who is someone you’d like to work with/play a show with in the future:

I think we can all agree Thom Yorke from Radiohead is someone we all look up and would love to work with, if given the chance.

-Fav. movie of all time:

Eric’s favorite movie is The Other Guys. Drew’s favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber. Jake’s favorite movie is Almost Famous. Tim’s favorite movie is Clue.

What is something people may be surprised to find out about you?

We all have an affinity for Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza. It’s the glue that holds our band together.

-What is something you’d really like to see or do in your lifetime?

Visiting and touring other countries is something we’ve all wanted to do for the longest time. We’ve heard Japan is incredible for touring bands!

-Fav. artist/group of all time & your fav. song by them?

Jake’s favorite song/band is Fix You by Coldplay. Tim’s favorite song/band is 59 Sound By The Gaslight Anthem. Drew’s favorite song/band is The Seventh Trumpet by August Burns Red. And Eric’s favorite song/band is Wasteland by Augustana.

-What was your fav. cartoon or tv show while growing up?

Drew’s favorite TV show IS Home Improvement. He watches it every day. Tim’s favorite was Full House. Eric’s favorite TV show was Pokemon. Jake’s favorite was Doug.

-Any last words/message to your fans?
