-Introduce yourselves: We are “That Was Something”, from Detroit, Michigan. Bradley, Ryan, Mark, JP, Scabber and John. Just six cats who love to jam.
-How did you guys start That Was Something? “That Was Something” was started roughly 5 or 6 years ago, when JP met John in High School. JP asked John if he knew how to play Blink 182′s “Adam’s Song”. It kind of went from there…
-Fall 2008 you guys have a new record coming out, can you tell us a bit about it? Our new EP is vicious. We recorded with Rob Freeman formerly of Hidden in Plain View who recently recorded Hit The Lights and also recorded Cobra Starship’s first release. Our new songs are a completely different direction than what the band was previously doing. A new vocalist, we’ve also added Scabber to the band who adds an amazing element of guitar to the band. The new EP is dancy, poppy, fun and just makes you move really. We all dig it and are super proud of it.
-What is the best thing about performing live? The best thing about performing live has to be the people. If the people watching are into it then it’s 10,000 times more exciting. You’re job is to entertain these people, I don’t think we see it as a job though. We see it as an opportunity.
-Fav. song to perform? Favorite song, I can’t really say. I think as a band probably “The Wedding”. It’s been a favorite for a long time, everyone’s the most comfortable with it and it’s one of the oldest songs.
-Any embarrassing moments happen to any of you during a show that you’d care to share?! Luckily with me no, I’ve only been in the band about six or seven months now and with all of our shows nothing terrible has happened. (Knock on wood). I know it’s coming though, I think about it all the time. One of these days I’m going to lose my pants or fall on my ass during the set. When it happens I’ll deal but for now it’s safe to say I’ve got a clean record.
-Who are some of your influences? As a band we’re the most eclectic group ever. That’s not an exaggeration at all, we’re all the most different people but when we come together to write the music it’s amazing. I’d say bands like Maroon 5, Third Eye Blind, Michael Jackson…There’s so many, we’re all influenced by so many different bands, Hanson, Blink 182…the list goes on…
-What do you guys hope to accomplish in your career? I don’t really want to sugar coat it. We’re in it to get our music to as many people as possible. The music industry (as I’m quickly finding out) is a cut throat business and the more people that dig your music the easier it is to climb to the top. By the end of 09′ I want “Fall Out Boy” opening for “That Was Something”…that’s an exaggeration but you get me.
-You guys have a tour coming up, Monsters Tour, how long is this tour going to last and where can everyone go to find out more info/dates? Unfortunately the Monsters Tour will not be happening do to personal reasons beyond our control, we’re very sorry about this but we’re working on bigger and better things in the future right now.
-If you chould choose any band/artist to do a show with, who would you choose and why? Personally I would say Acceptance, they were my favorite band and still are even though they’ve split. Michael Jackson, PATD! puts on an amazing show. I want to put on a show with anyone who wants to put on a show with us. I’m very very proud of our live performance and I personally guarantee that if you like what you hear on the myspace and on our new EP and new songs, there’s no way you’ll be dissapointed in our live show. We kill it.
-Message to your fans/friends? Keep up with us, it goes without saying we love everyone who loves us. The fans and friends are the solid that keeps us going. I can’t wait to sell out arenas and personally thank every one of you.
